Made it out on horseshoe tonight, 1 5/8" of ice is what I was sitting on, but it varies a lot, and is not the prettiest ice to be treading on. A lot of the areas just have a skim over them. If you don't know the chain or haven't been follwing the ice daily out there I would stay off for a while. only-eyes

a lot of horseshoe has been froze for a while, then parts opened and refroze. the hole i wanted to hit i got to but i felt the ice drop a little when i was on top so i moved in a ways, enough action to keep a guy out there, it was about what i expected out of the spot.

Only eyes, you be careful out there. I sure hope you had a life jacket on. Less than two inches? Not for this guy!

I don't hit the ice until there's at least 5 inches. I'm a beefy guy and the ice varies so much this time of year. A few inches difference could cost you your life.

Borch, of course I use whatever safety prcautions I can. Its just nice to have a peacefull outing on the lake before the coas the chain can sometimes bring. Good Luck when the ice comes.

I'm keeping an eye out on this one.

I am going to be so busy during most of the season, that I am only going to be able to get out early and late ice for those kitties.

I aint as brave as you though. I gotta have at least 3 inches and then I'd still feel more comfortable with water ski's on my boots!

I have been waiting to chase those kitties through the ice on the 'shoe since April. cool.gif

I 'll try and give some current ice conditions for the Chain. My dad lives on the lake now and I ask him about the Ice situation every day. Remember to watch out for the "river current areas" on the lakes!

Guys the ice on the chain is real spotty now and I wouldn't advise travel yet. There is some ice in the bays on some of the local lakes but 2 inches is about all that I have found. Most of the bigger portions of the lakes are ice free yet things really need to get cold fast and the extended forcast doesn't look good.

There is a house and I did see a angler on Schneider in the narrows but most of the lake is still open. I realize everyone has the itch to venture out but right now I think the ice still isn't safe.

Dennis: Those kitty's are there and in time we will get to them, look's like I won't reach some of my cat honey holes untill later in the season.
