Lake off of Highway 14 East of Mankato

Recommended Posts

Just wondering where people can park to fish this pond. Its the small lake/pond on the south side of 14 about a mile east of 22 in Kato. I've fished it before and know its public just dont know where you're suppose to park. Also is there enough ice around the Kato area to start fishing and does anyone want to give it a try pretty soon when theres enough ice.

I usually see people parking right on the side of the highway although I am not sure if that is the right thing to be doing because it is an area with a lot of traffic.

People do park off the 4 lane there but it is a dangerous area. Any time you pull of the side of the road you are a target for those on the phone or putting their makeup on.

People are drawn to parked cars when they are not paying attention to the road.

Keep in mind when driving that stretch that the overpass is a VERY slippery when the temps drop below freezing.

Last weeks snow sent a car over through the guard cables and over the hill, they are lucky they did not roll to the bottom.

To answer your question I do know of a safe place to park that is close to the pond.

Some go past to the road just past the pond and walk the Sakatah trail to it but it is a hike and it is possible the Eagle Lake PD will tow you.

Maybe ask Chucks body shop if you can park there and walk it.
