Deer stands in danger next to public ?

Recommended Posts

Guys, we had a warden come on private property, next to some WMA land and started telling us to move our stands. We showed him the survey stakes that had been their for 50 years. He said his GPS was more accurate, and questioned the original survey marks. He got upset when we told him to post the WMA, when they border private land. To eliminate the problems were having, Has anyone else experienced this, and what are our options? I feel they should show the burden of proof. 30ft can make a difference.

He's probably had a LONG season. Hope he wasn't too rude. I've got a friend who's a CO, and you should hear the crap he catches for doing his job, and protecting our resources. I live by a game refuge, and there are always people trying to take deer off it. Usually placing their stands right where they think the lines are. And guess which way they walk into there stands from. I get upset over it, and it's not even my job. I imagine your guy probably has a couple of months of 16 hour days behind his belt, and wasn't looking to catch any flak on that day. If he was wrong, I'm sure he would be the first to apologize. If he took your number, I wouldn't be suprised if he did just that. I don't think he or anyone should have to post sighns in a situation like that though. ALL hunters should be responsible and intelligent enough to avoid the situation. People who plead ignorance really annoy me. My 3 cents

I highly doubt his GPS was more accurate than a platted survey. Even the best handheld GPS units do not offer the correction factor required to gain a position on a property line or corner. A handheld could be 10 feet to 100 feet off depending on the satellite avalibility. Besides the point he should request a survey paid for by the DNR and check into it before getting into an argument about something unknown. Then you should hang signs on that property line so that no future arguments occur.
