Doe smelled like perfume??

I may be crazy, hopefully someone can prove I'm not, but i shot a doe this weekend that smelled like perfume! And no, it wasn't because I spent too much time away from my girlfriend either:) Seriously, when I field dressed this deer it really smelled like perfume. I have never smelled that before. I started to think that maybe that was the smell a doe puts off after she has been breed. Can anyone make me believe that I'm not crazy? Maybe this deer just came from the cosmetics department of Herberger's, but the smell was strong and definitely not foul smelling.

I knew I was losing my mind, just not this fast! Maybe it was somthing she was eating, although i didn't puncture the stomach at all. Like I said, I have never smelled this before.

Yep, it's official. I have spent too much time in the woods.

Nothing a little time in the icehouse can't fix :-)

Maybe the deer got into some kind of aromatic plant, you know, like mint or something of that nature?

I know there are fragrant plants that are not at all unpleasant and could have a perfume like smell....On the other hand, have you ever considered seeking professional

help? grin.gif

The first thing that came to my mind was some lonely hunter must have been looking for some "company" and spruced her up.

I know, my mind is in the gutter. It is all of the scottish/sheep jokes that I keep hearing.

is it possible it was a deer raised by hand and let go? close to houses or a farm?

we had raised up a fawn a couple of times, but we didn't spray them with perfume, we tied on an orange neckerchief.

just a thought. can't be any goofier than the rest of the answers here.

I'm with Grebe,

There are a lot of native prairie plants that have pungent odors. Any number or combination of these could have caused this smell you experienced... Mountain Mint, Purple Cone Flower. I've smelled them in passing, but I've never experienced anything like you did.

Now that you mention it Pistolero, she was producing a little milk. Maybe that's what it was!

I thought I would get heckled a little bit, all in good fun though!!!
