Thinking about taking a drive to bald eagle tomorrow or saturday to check on the ice, I will be fishing sunday either at eagle or coon.

Took a drive to check out the ice at bald eagle, would have been able to fish if not for the rain yesterday and last night, about 2 inches just off the dock. Will check again sunday.

Drove to Bald Eagle again this morning, wind has blown the lake wide open again. Bay by boat landing had 4 inches but only ice out 200 feet or so. Might head up around wed to check it out again. Is there any ice anywhere out there?

The Champlin Mill pond and river was all ice this morning.

Just hoping some ice was made on the lakes last night. It's supposed to be cold today and tonight too, maybee we'll have some fishable ice tommorow?

Tell ya what, If we could get these temps and a calm night I think that would pretty much seal the deal.

I went out to look at WBL & bald eagle today...Bald Eagle's southern 1/3rd of the lake has a skim of ice over it. I din't check the north end, but with a calm night I wouldn't be surprized to see a thin layer over most of the lake. White Bear had a thin layer about 30 ft out from the shore, and in the bays it looked a little thicker. Hopefully the 40 degree temps they are predicting for mid week don't happen.

Drove past Bryant Lake 12/12 and the wind had opened up most of the lake again. This am on the way to work it looked to be mostly frozen again. Same thing on a couple of ponds off 494. The lakes surely want to go, just need a little help from Ma Nature!

Waconia is frozen from the south shore by the bay by In Town as far as I can see from there. It's probably open in the middle toward more open water, but its a start... Most of the ice in the bay looks like it is pieces all blown up onto each other and then froze as such. Probably not the safest ice but ice nonetheless. Shouldn't be too long now.

Tonka is frozen for the most part. A little open water and around Bracketts point and other areas where I can see waterfowl sitting on the main lower lake. All the bays are frozen on my drive along 15 this morning. I was even surprised to see Crystal Bay frozen being that is the deepest part of the lake.

Should make some more ice the rest of the day. Be careful out there if you venture out this weekend. It is suppose to get warmer towards the end of the week.

I live over in Roseville... I drove by Josephine last night and it was wide open. I then drove over to owasso and it was covered with a good layer of ice. I just checked the weather and both channel 4 & 5 are saying high temps in the low 30's for the rest of the week. I hope that holds true. With over night lows in the teens and twenties I do believe I'll be fishing somewhere this weekend!! It won't be long now... smile.gif

Has anyone been checking any of our smaller lakes (less than 500 acres) that have been skimmed over for a few weeks? I imagine that they've been able to make the most of our cold snap as long as they didn't open up with the wind. I would think that anything that remained skimmed over didn't get affected by the wind at all and have been booming away for the past couple of days with new ice. I'm hoping to get out on some of these this weekend. Will be checking on some of them this week and will update on FM. Bring on the ICE!!

i just went down to med and i found any where from 1.5-2 inches of ice off of west med road. I was able to walk out quite a ways but then again i only weigh 140 pounds i shoudl be fishing tomorrow night if the little bit warmer temps dont mess up the ice too much.

Medicine is skimmed over finally... I wouldn't test it too much, though, there was mostly open water yesterday... cool.gif

Tonka was 90% froze in the am, but dont' be fooled. There is less than 1 inch on the entire lake.

I drove the entire north shore around noon and I bet 1/3 of the lake was open again. Especially Smiths Bay and Brown Bay.

"The ice man cometh!" Finally some ice...I thought I would get out at least a week ago, but things did'nt work out the way I planned.

Got out today on a little local lake, had to be carefull and could only get out to 9 feet of water, but what the hey, I was fishing!

The shore ice was clear and hard as granite, there was a secondary swath of white ice and this to was solid.

But, one inch beyond that white ice and it was Davy jones locker for sure! Up to and including the white ice, 3-4 inches...beyond the white ice 1 inch.

Alas, not a fish did I catch, not a bite did I have frown.gif I fished from 4 feet out to 9 feet in an area that has usually been good to us early, nada.

I did'nt bring the Vex, or the Aqua View on this trip, did'nt know if I would get out? Going out to another spot tommarrow morning.

Yaaaah, ice fishing 2004 has offically started for me, I hope we got the skunk stuff out of the way today and will move forward from here! smile.gif

I'm still a bit skeptical about getting out on the ice here in the metro area. Yeah, we've had a couple real nice ice forming days but with the coming warmup it might be too thin by the time this weekend comes.

Yesterday afternoon, Lower Prior was completely iced over. Hopefully it won't melt through with todays warm weather.

I checked the ice on Prior and cedar this morning and found only about 1.5 inches. It will be some time before its safe to walk on with the next few days of warmer weather coming. It looks like Saturday it may cool down again.
