Smaller lakes good for ice fishing

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what smaller lakes are/would be good to try. I'm getting anxious to get out there and can't wait for Bemidji and Winnie to ice over enough. I don't really want to go take someone's secret hot spot but any advice or guidence would be appreciated.

hey al, just got back today w/ all of my goodies, stopped at lake near where ted and i bowhunt, drilled a hole-+4", granted it was only 6ft from the shore line, but I'm ready to go! if temps stay low throughout the night, should be walkable on smalll lakes by this weekend!

the lake I stopped on had sled tracks on the shoreline, so idk if he went out or what. The lake has good crappies, last time i ice fished was 6 years!

Bout darn time you get back. We need to go out this weekend. Well, before that we should go drive around and check ice thickness on some small lakes. Do you need to get whooped by the Akron Zips again? grin.gif

was out on some area lakes and ran into another person who was checking lakes at the bait store, so far these are the lakes i know the thickness of: Larson 4+" Three Island 3 1/2" Gull 2" at the boat launch, it looked like someone went through. Beltrami 3" Turtle 3 1/2" all the way to the end of the reeds at the boat launch, will be heading out to check on some more lakes tomorrow, so i will keep everyone posted.
