Portables - Climber vs Traditional

Now that the season is about over, I have been thinking of converting form my traditional Portable to a Climber. Can anyone speak to the advantages and disadvantages. Also any recommendations for reasonable climber would be nice.

Thanks

the climbers are awesome! i have one and use it alot for bow and rifle season. the one i have is a huntersview. it is the better model not the barebones model. the only problem i have with it is the fact that it is steel... i wish i had bought an aluminum one! they weigh about a quarter of what the steel ones do. buy a folding saw to carry on your belt to cut small limbs out of the way and you are set. the stand i have is very solid. you can lean or move around and it doesnt shift at all. i mostly leave mine on the bottom of the treewhen i am hunting alot because it is so heavy. if you get one im sure you will like it!!

To me the most important advantage of a climber is that you are always protected by your safety harness. Most accidents with a fixed stand occur getting in and out of them, with a climber you are always in your stand. I hook my harness to the tree as soon as I start to climb and just move the tree rope up as I move the stand up.

I love my climber. The only thing I dont like about it is that it squeaks. Spooked a buck during the gun season trying to get in shooting position. So if you get a climber make sure you oil it down.

Depends on where and how I am hunting an area. If it is a spot I have scouted prior to the season and will be hunting one or two particular bucks, I use my hang on stands and move them as I need to. This covers most of my hunting areas, but in the case of a time I want to hunt a new area and just want to check it out during the season, I will go in with my climber and set up for a day or two, then as I see the deer patterns I will either hang a fixed or just continue with my climber. The best climber I have used is made by Lone Wolf, light, dependable, and it is cast aluminum that has no squeaks. It's spendy but well worth the money invested. And for hang on stands, I go with Gorilla or Lone Wolf, the feature I really like about the Lone Wolf stand is you can level the stand after you have it in the tree. So you can actually hang the stand in crooked tree but still be level while hunting.
