Fire Line Recommendations

Captain B.R.K

Question

I'm wondering if I need to re-spool my fireline this year? Last time I had it spooled on was the last week of December last year and I used the spool for ice fishing. That was it. It has sat in my tackle box since.

Is it recommended that I respool with NEW fireline for this coming ice season?

if you didn't use it a whole bunch i would pull the first 20 feet and just trim off, to take care of any frayed or nicked issues.

I didn't use it much, just for a ice-fishing trip to the ice-shield lakes of Canada for a lake trout trip.

I'm making the same trip this Jan., just don't wait to be at the end of the road and not have problems with the line.

If its not frayed or discolored it should be ok. I would cut off the 1st 10' or so. Give the rest a quick look for nicks but I bet its ok. I have used Power Pro and Fireline on some reels for 3 years. I just keep taking it from 1 spool and putting it on the spares.

It should be fine, just test the strength with a few tugs. Trim the end.

Very good guys.I'll take the recommendations and run with them. Hopefully my tugs won't break the line. Otherwise that stuff gets pretty $$$$!

After I've used the Fire Line for awhile, I reverse it on the spool and its like getting a new spool of line. I don't think it ages like regular mono does. I've got some I've used summer and winter for over three years. Just check it every so often with your fingers for bad spots.
