I am trying to help my inlaws find a cabin. I was thinking some were in the Alxeandria area. Can any one recommend any other good areas.

Thanks

One of the things that I would ask yourself is how far you would like to drive??? I will admit that I would prefer to be up North as stated in the previous post. However, the in-laws have a place in Alexandria (Lake Ida) and will also admit that being able to make it up there in about 2 hours makes it darn handy for a quick weekend trip.

I really like that Alex area. The less than 2 hour drive is a very nice feature - anything over 2 hours gets progressively tough for a weekend trip. 94 is a nice straight shot, easy drive. Even if your folks will stay all week, they will want visitors. The town of Alex is nice and handy too. A lot of good restraunts + Menards! & Fleet Farm! I actually like the more open terrain, you can see farther. The rolling hills are scenic. There is a decent (for midwest) downhill ski area there also. I do think the most important thing is the lake you get on - and you can tell everybody else does too - by the prices.

we do have a walmart up here also for those 24 hr needs. super walmart is in the plans for ground breaking next spring right behind the existing store.

2 main grocery stores are open 24 hrs, nice for after work shoping.

lots of friendly people and some relly good resturants.

oh ya, lots of good lakes to fish also.

We've been going to Alex for the last 4 years, & we love it! We used to go up north by Grand Rapids, & although it is beautiful & the fishing is decent enough, but I'll take the Alex area in a minute. I'm from Southern MN., & in the time it takes to go 5 or 6 hrs. north, I can be in Alex. unpacked & in the boat fishing. Great food, entertainment, & shopping needs are just a few short miles into town, not to mention more lake choices than ever. I've considered seeking employment there, cause it would be a great place to live. L2f

I assume you are looking to buy???

I was by Walker for many years but sold and bought by Alex....the drvie time was cut in at least half:) I go every weekend so the road time adds up.

Only bad thing is the cabins are a bit close.

I am on Amelia by Glenwood. Several cabins for sale there, starts @ 180,000 and goes up.
