Deer Hunting Help

Recommended Posts

Hey guys........Me and one of my friends want to take a little deer hunting trip. We are thinking about heading up to blackduck tomorrow........Could any of you locals point us in the right direction from blackduck?? I'm not looking for a secret spot, just one that would hopefully give us a chance at a nice doe, but if I see a nice buck I'm going to shoot it laugh.gif..............Is there any state land that isn't hunted real hard, neither of us are afraid to walk a mile to get to a decent spot either...Any help would be very nice guys!!

I don't have any spots but make sure you go east to be in zone 1.

Are you Bow Hunting? That's all that's open right around here at this time. You might want to check with Mark at Bluewater Bait in Bemidji or Carl at Timberline Sports in Blackduck for good spot suggestions. Otherwise, there's miles and miles of state & national forest around here.

Nope, Zone 1 is open still through 21st for rifle.

Bucks~in your hunting regs there is a map that will show you where the line is, here in Blackduck the section of the dividing line for zone 1 and 2 is on 71, like Woodman said, stay east. There are maps available out there that you can buy that show what land is state, county and private land. Zone 110 is right up the road from Blackduck in the Northome area, but remember to stay east of Hwy 72, again that is marked on the map in the regs. That area (110 & 167) has been doing pretty good from the folks that we've had here, as has the Chippewa National Forest area. The largest buck to come through here this year is still the 10 point 210 pounder, but a nice 8 point came through last night (as well as several nice does, spike bucks and six pointers the past couple of weeks).

Good luck to you, let us know how you do!

Drake- Zone 1 is over on the 21st of November!!! Where did you get the 23rd at? No deer since last thursday for us. We hunted hard today and still no deer. One last day tomarrow, and hopefully we can bag a couple. We still have 7 tags open. frown.gif

Duh! Thanks Woodman...I knew rifle was still open this weekend. Was talking dates about Thanksgiving and when family was coming when typing...can't do two things at once!

We hunted hard all weekend, and never saw a deer. I believe the wolves that were spotted south of Northome had a big effect on our hunting this year. Tiffany is the big buck winner in the Hanson party this year.

Was north of Blackduck this weekend in zone 2 doing a bit of bow hunting. Boy the big bucks were still on the prowl looking for does. Never did get a shot at one but did end up with a big fat doe. Nice to get back out in the woods again after rifle season is over. Good luck out there.

I'm noticing the same around Tenstrike. It seems to me that the rut didn't get going until about halfway into rifle season and is still going on. Can't wait to get Turkey day over and get back out there.
