The North/South Center lakes (Chisago Area) are usually a good bet. South has been seeing some good Eye and Crappie action the last couple of years. That might change this year, but one can never tell.

Linwood huh? You know...I've never had any luck on that lake. Supposed to be an incredible Crappie population on that one..but I've hooked into very few. I'd usually end up going just down the road to Coon. It doesn't have much variety in fish, but the Bass and Northerns hit like crazy.

Seeing as I suggested it; I'll vote WBL as well. Did very well there during the Open Water season. Hope to see you there wink.gif

Matt,...I started this post to plead with you to choose Calhoun but as I prepared to type, it occured to me that a get together on Calhoun would mean a whole bunch of really experienced anglers would suddenly descend upon one of my favorite lakes. oh-oh crazy.gif So I too vote for WBL.

Actually, Calhoun would be a blast. Just imagine the shock to the seaweed eaters and tree huggers, jogging around the lake. The ice full of fish abusers. shocked.gifcool.gif

Hey Fergus Mor McErc,

I fish Calhoun in the winter 2-3 times per week. Live about 10 minutes from there. Always looking for another fishing partner. So if you ever want to go out (when there is ice that is) give me a hollar at [email protected]

You have probably seen my black shelter out there many times on the west side where nobody fishes.

Chow for now,

Dan

Hi Dan,

I get out on Calhoun a number of times each winter, usually along the north end. I live a few blocks south of Harriet and fish there more often. I'll let you know when I'm comming over that way. cool.gif Likewise, if you're ever heading to Harriet, give me a shout. smile.gif[email protected]

Ok, Dan (goin fishin) and myself took it upon ourselves to set a date and place for the Metro Get Together. It will be Jan. 15th at 10:00am. We will meet at the Ramsey Beach parking lot on White Bear Lake

Anybody up for breakfest around 8:00am that Saturday? We can name the place later.

I just wanted to set a date and time.

Let me hear your thoughts.

Peace,

SmellyJelly

SJ,

If I can make I will be there!

I've had the chance to SmellyJelly and goin fishin and they are both class acts. White Bear Lake is a good choice for a get together, a lot of structure, area and possibilities. Good pick guys!

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

Alright, Smelly jelly, the date has been set. I hope everyone interested in this event can make it. I will make some fresh venison brats at home for this event, so I hope to get a head count in order to bring enough for everyone. We'll worry about that when it gets closer to the event. I just hope the weather co-operates so we can actually have some ice on the lake.

Well, that at least makes two people for this with a probable show-up from the infamous Matt Johnson.

Chow for now,

Goin Fishin, AKA Dan

I would like to get out there too but have to work early that day. I know dumb Q but if I could be out there by maybe 10 would that really be too late even to catch a pike or something?

Swamp Scooter,

You will be able to pick up some panfish, pike and possibly some bass during the day. White Bear Lake is full of panfish and pike and the day bite can be pretty decent. Are you talking 10am or 10pm?

Good Fishin,

Matt Johnson

I will for sure be there with maybe a non member in tow. Now I have never been to one of these get togethers so can someone tell me what goes on?

I would be interested as well. I live by White Bear but have only been out a few times with limited success. I fished out of Belleair on the South side. I hear there is a very good panfish, pike, and walleye population.

First of all...It's a great way to meet a bunch of great people that share common interest. I have participated in two of the Metro Get Togethers and had a blast. Depending on how many people show up...we can stay together as a group or split up into groups. I have several spots saved on my gps from previous years that have produced fish.

From a fishermans standpoint...It beats cleaning the house. grin.gif

So who is up for a great time?

Peace,

SmellyJelly

Sounds good. I'll try to make it.

I had the best year open water thus far for panfish off of white bear (some bruiser sunnies) and did decently for Bass as well. I'm interested to see what happens on the ice.

Cya guys there!

If I don't end up at the cabin that weekend, I will be there. It will be good to finally meet some people face to face. Hopefully we'll have ice by then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! frown.gif

yes, early ice you can do good on walleye and crappie on Harriet just have to wait one of the last to freeze up ,but with the cold coming a X-MAS or NEW YEAR Sun. could be in the mix.

WBL on 1/15 @ 10AM - sounds like a plan. I like trying new lakes and it will give me a chance to stop in and pick up some smoker accesories at the Outdoor Cooking store in WBL afterwards. Now that I'm down in the SE metro I don't get up that way very often.

Hey Smelly Jelly,

Should we start a new topic for this date since we are definitely going to host it? That way we could starting getting a good idea of who will attend this event.

I will give you a call tonight.

Chow for now,

Dan

Dan & Smelly -

Count me in. It will be a preview for a small club tourney I have on the lake the following Saturday. I have to return to defend my title.

Good to hear from ya Zaraspooks!

I am glad that you can make it out John, hopefully we can help you get a head start on that tournament. By the way, give Smelly Jelly a call. We have a little info to share with you. Maybe the three of us can get together next week for some ice fishing.

Hope to hit some hard water w/ya soon,

Peace,

Goin Fishin
