Rum River Report (11/16)

Recommended Posts

It's official - the river has been dropped - dramatically! Must be down 3-4 feet.....and it's supposed to be 58 degrees tomorrow.....have no idea how tough it would be to launch a boat or if it is even possible. Am going to drive by the landing at the Fairgrounds today and check it out.

EBass,

You're right about launching but likely nothing bigger than a glorified rowboat/jonboat....saw a guy in a 12' that had to lift up his 5 hp and paddle to get close enough to get out. River is still dropping. Seems VERY low but that might be because it was so high most of the last few weeks.

Spent time chatting with a few guys sucker fishing on the dock there - had a bucketful of redtail suckers. Two guys were Russian and were breaking the rules - multiple poles with multiple hooks. Tried to explain it to them and they stopped but the other guys said they knew exactly what they were doing - he had told them the same thing on previous days.

Lost -

They had a 5 gal. bucket full of redtail suckers....at least I think that is what they are called.

River is so low that they had to drag the fish across the mud for at least 20 ft. before getting to the bank by the fishing dock near the landing.

Had been very good on the Rum until they dropped the river -no idea now - couldn't float my boat now even if I had not put it away for the year....
