I like my Garmin GPS Map 76S. I use it for both open water and ice fishing. Accepts downloadable software. Very easy to get to learn. It is a little more advanced that the starter models. A friend of mine has the Garmin Etrex and likes it.

i just bought a garmin e-trex legend last year. love it to death. works great. its also a farely inexpensive model considering what it can do. i am seeing them for about 160-170 right now. i bought mine for $200. dont go with the vista, its a $100 more and all it has is an electronic compass and a little extra memory. the legend is all you need. Just my 2 cents

The Garmin GPS 72 is a fine unit also. It runs about $160 and is WAAS enabled for increased accuracy.

I wouldn't go fishing without it. smile.gif

Decide on your price range then shop for as much downloadable memory as you can get in that range. You may want to purchase lake map info at a later time and input into your unit. These lake maps have fishing info for the lake as well as depths.
