I'm not shooting coyotes yet, but just wandering what you guys do after you shoot coyotes. This winter I plan on shooting some, probably keep the hides and try keeping them, but how about the rest? I'm only shooting to keep the couple extra deer and grouse in the woods. using the .06

-thanks

Ought six or not, first you have to get the Yote before you can skin him!

Then once you skin him, I have a good hunch you probably won't be wanting to skin anymore!

Things to consider....trying to get the hide off a cold Coyote is like trying to skin a recapped tire!

A warm Coyote is easier....if you can stand the fleas and other bugs they carry, not everyone can.

A hide in the freezer is'nt worth much in a monetary or a visual sense...to have one tanned costs some scratch and to do it yourself, is quite an operation.

If you find yourself with a Coyote, maybe you could hunt up a fur buyer that would buy him in the round and maybe give you a low grade, tanned pelt in return? Something like that.

Carcasses of trapped, or shot critters, from what I have seen, are used for alot of different things. Beaver as food for coon hounds, skulls to boil out as curios, bait for other sets, an ultimately, carcass piles to draw in other predators, and/or as a means to recycle the carcasses back into the system...a winter supply for meat eaters, be it beast, or bird. A rendering plant may also take the carcass, but I don't think there alot of them left.

I dont plan on trying to make any profit in shooting some, but maybe if I get a nice hide, I'll try to borax it, the cheap way. For the meat, I'll prob. do what you suggested, and just use it to attract other predators, bird food, and such. thanks,
