Chuck and others -

What's the word on duck hunting in the area? I'm heading up this weekend for one last trip and I would like it if the ducks would cooperate. So if anyone can order some ducks into the area, feel free!!!

Any news? Thanks in advance!

Saw lots of goldeneyes Saturday at sun up, followed by some big flocks of geese, a few swans, a few mallards. On the way back to the cities Monday a few of the potholes were holding mallards and a few divers for once.

Like the others noted, I have seen lots of geese. I hunted deer along S. Turtle last weekend, and was surprised by the lack of divers. I saw one flock of bills, and heard a few goldeneyes, but not much. I heard some shotgun shooting over toward N. Turtle, enough that it sounded like they were having a pretty good shoot.

On the waterfowl threads there was mention that a big migration push appeared to be on in N.Dakota yesterday, so it could be ok this weekend.

Hunted Norway this morning. Very slow. A few goldeneyes out in the middle, but nothing looking at the decoys except a couple mergansers. Very little flying. No wind didn't help.

Sounds like things are still slow, but thanks for the updates. I will be heading up anyway, because you can't shoot ducks sitting on the couch & our duck season is quickly coming to an end. Good luck to all this weekend!

Things are really slow around here. I snuck out Saturday morning and saw one flock of bills that came into the deks just before shooting time, 2 ringbills, 3 mallards and one small flock of Goldeneyes. (I hit the same lake BLB, the lake to the south had some shooting, but not a lot.)

Some skim ice around the shorelines, which surprised me.

How did everyone do?

I'm thinking its time to target walleye and skis from now on... grin.gif It's going to be another mild week ahead and our duck season will be over shortly.

Great photos, especially that Redhead. Nice looking pup, too. Glad to see someone get into the birds.

ChuckN- Look out, that dog might "greet" you too, LOL.

ChuckN,

All I can say is you are correct on not being in OTC. I can also say it was within a 2 hour drive from Battle lake.

We found a field that the mallards were using and for once got permission to hunt it. I am triing to go back to the area next weekend and get back into the birds, and if I give out any more information, I'd be making it even harder for me to get on the field, someone here might beet me to the field where the birds are. so sorry I cand devoulge my hot spot.

that picture had about 200-250 birds in it, but the birds out of lens view was insane... at one time we litteraly had 1500+ mallards, widgeon, pintails and teal abouve us trying to get in and eat. the birds were every where and comming into us from every direction. cool.gif

Geez, I wouldn't devulge it either! Nice find! Save some for me, eh? LOL

I'll add my local duck report. I found some birds loafing in some shallow sloughs again now that the ice has melted. Time will tell for a report. Migrants have filtered in and they are trying to find any easy meal they can, I'll leave it at that. smile.gif
