Long Tom shotgun.

SCUMFROG

Question

I'm looking for this gun for a co-worker. She doesn't know who makes it, just that's what it was called. Can any one help me find this gun. She wants to buy it for her husband. He gave his away long ago.

Back in the "old" days - the 1950's and possibly before that, waterfowler's wanted the longest possible barrels for maximum range (dense pattern and velocity) and sight plane. Hence the term "long tom". This could have been any type of shot gun w/ a long barrel and full chokes - break, bolt, etc. These were most often 10 and 12 gauges.

Some years ago, I would say in the 70's - right before the advent of steel shot, Marlin had a bolt action shotgun (I have no idea as to the model #) called the "Long Tom".

The requirement to use non-toxic shot (which patterns tighter) and modern poweders has done away with the need for long barrels, hence the shorter barreled guns we have today.

So far as locating one of these - I would say check at your local full service gun shop. Its been years since I've seen one, but you might get lucky.

I had one of the Marlin "Goose Gun's" with the 36" barrel and a 3 shot clip bolt action. It was a real PITA to shoot.

Yes Benny send them to scumfrog3 at hot mail dot com. I'll show them to her and she should have an idea what she's looking for.
