I am from NE SD and want to try to fish for tullibee this winter. When and where is a good place to start in the Fergus/Perham area? I love jigging with the vex and thought tullibee would add to the winter excitement! I know the Fergus area fairly well and heard some of the lakes have them. What time of the year should I plan a trip? If anyone fishes for them, I would appreciate some info.

Thanks,

Later in the winter is better. I prefer mid february to ice out.

Good lakes in the area are Clitherall and Star. Ottertail has good numbers, too, but I have never been able to get any good reliable spots. (yet)

I used to get good numbers on Stalker, too, but have not fished that for several years.

We used to do really good on Little Pine very late in the season in the deep hole. You always get to fight a nice crowd of people though...cameron

Long Lake by Vergus, Star and Lida is good as well. Late in the season is best, around February is when they start runnin mad!

FLB - Thanks, LOL. I had my wife take that a few years ago when we still did not have ice by turkey day.

I think it would make a great xmas card, but she begs to differ.....

  • 1 month later...

My family use to have a cabin on Star and my dad and I would catch alot of tulibees there but like Gissert said later in the winter. The bonus is the crappies may be on the bite then too. They seemed to take off a little better later on.
