End of Trolling Bite?

Good morning,

What are everyone's opinions on when the trolling bite ends on Mille Lacs? I went up for the first time twice last week and enjoyed some success. Considering heading up there this Thursday depending on the weather. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

I really don't think the best bite has happened yet. There seems to relatively few big fish up shallow at this time. Water temps have just hit the mid forties. The tulibees haven't moved up in any number yet. If I wasn't deer hunting this weekend I'd be up there. If we finish up early deer hunting I may still make a trip or two.

By the way my dad and brother headed up Sunday night and fished from midnight to 4 am. They caught 4 or 5 walleyes(1 slot) and 44" and 50+" muskies.

It dont slow down until ice up. we have have been up there when the ice was forming on the lake and we caught fish as long as we keep our line off the floating ice to keep our lures down. we went up last weekend and had three nights of good fishing with the biggest fish bing 29". just woundering if everyone is catching a lot of tagged walleyes this year we had 2 last weekend.

My latest open water outing on Mille Lacs was December 2nd, 2001. The fishing was great. The fall trolling bite may improve, or fall off, and re-improve during any given year, but I would guess in general the only thing that would completely stop the open water bite... is ice cover. laugh.gif

Keep fishing, when the water gets down to 40-43 degress the tulibees start on there spawn on the rocks...fish into slightly deeper water. I have had better success in November than October and September

Any recommendations on an access on the West side between the casino and Garrison? How is the public access at Shah bush kung? I imagine the docks are out as well as the buoys...

thanks

It's the access I use. Yes the docks and buoys have been pulled. I'll fish untill I can't get on the lake, the best is yet to come. Like Borch said, the big ones are not in the shallows yet, at least not in big numbers. The water temp needs to drop a few degrees for the tullibees to move in, when they do thats prime time. I've caught many walleyes with four inches of tullibee tail sticking out of their mouths and still wanting more.

Good fishing!
