Gonna Check the Perimeter?

Recommended Posts

Who, if I may inquire, has intentions on fishing a lake or three in this area around the first ice period?

And for what specie(s) if you care to divulge such info.

I will be fishing this area, and I know it may surprise some, but I will target Crappies. smile.gif

I am hoping i can hit the ice the first week or so in december, weather permitting. My main focus is for ol' marble eye.....nothing like seeing one of those pigs through 5" of ice....

UJ...do you target these crappies during daylight or????

Mostly, yes, I do alot of daytime Crappie fishing at first ice.

There are a few lakes that I prefer to fish at sunset and after dark, but these are lakes that I usually only hit a couple of times during the entire ice season.

I try to target stained water lakes, which consequently give the better daytime bite on average.

as soon as there is walkable ice, I will be out on fleming. chasing crappies, with maybe a sucker for the pike.

Knoppers, whats the situation with fleming. I fished it two years ago and caught little crappies until I ran out of minnows everytime i was out. Then last year I went out there a couple times and could only catch little perch. I know from reading previous posts that you fish it a lot and I thought you might know somthing. Is it still worth fishing?

I know there was a crappie die off after the spawn last year. I also know it gets fished hard for crappies, even thou I wouldn't think any amount of fishing pressure could dent the population.

still caught many small crappies throughout this year. there still there, probably in less numbers, so you may have to move around untill you find the mass.

maybe the size will improve with less fish, I hope so.

I am going to be up there some for first ice. As soon as the ice can support a four wheeler there is a little lake where I can spank the crappies, gills and northerns during the middle of the day.
