I've only heard this once, but it's when you're sitting out in your deer stand, early in the morning, and I had my step-son out with me when he was about 11 or 12, real quiet, a few leaves rustling in the wind, birds singing, a squirrel bouncing around in the distance, then I fa?ted and told him it was a Buck snort.

Oh, different times of year, different sounds. Right now, the slurp of the water as you launch a canoe, the whistle of the wind through cupped wings at first light, the soft hiss webbed feet make as they hit the water or the defening roar a big flock of geese make as they take to the sky.

In the near future...the sound of a jiggle stick hitting the floor of a fish house, the crunch of cold snow under foot and the hiss of a propane heater.

Too many to just pick one favorite.

I would have to say the whine of my lab before she gets into a fresh snowcovered field, or the wind whistling from a flock of ducks. I also like to hear the hum of my FL-18 backed by the sound of my lantern.

How about the sounds of a marsh as you're sneaking up on it for the morning shoot - ducks splashing, wood ducks whistling, and the occaisional hen mallard quaking.

The me the first time I hear the frogs croaking in the spring.

The sound of divers doing their "mini jet" impersonation as the getting ready to bank into the decoys.

But best of all is the Gobble of a spring turkey geting louder ever time he does it. Get ready....

The Sound of hearing a fish jump out of the water on a calm moring or the sound of a eagles screech on a calm morning.

Soooo hard to pick favorites....

The scattered small splashes of a ball of baitfish being herded to the surface by predators, one of which will then be me!!

My son's understated, calm "I think I've got a fish" or "I don't think this is a weed".

The loud rustle of the tarp comin' off my boat in May.

My drag goin' off when I thought it was just a snag!!!!!!!

The sound of the waves lapping up against my boat on a crisp cool morning/evening on the Big Pond waiting for that next fish to hit.
The sound of a camp fire crackling at night sharing stories after a day of good fishing.

I like all of the outdoor sounds; but my favorite sound is when my daughter yells "DADDY!!!" when I come back from one of my outdoor adventures.

mm

ps She did it again Saturday when I got back from duck hunting!

Here's a new one, my favorite: the sound of the robins (who've just returned from their winter migration) singing & chirping on a spring (or summer) evening. I'm pretty sure they're saying the same thing I'm thinking: "YAYYYYYY! WINTER'S GONNNNNE!"

Went in to Lucky 7 to get some crappie minnows today. All they had were crappie minnows and fatheads. She said to call in advance for the opener, couldn't say for sure if they'd have rainbows, shiners, etc for opener!

Been out couple times this last week. Between the rain and wind there really was only one day this past week where it was actually warm out fishing.  Water temps are low mid 50s yet, not much change from last week.  Fish are still holding out off the first break on some area lakes and right up in the boat channels and back bays of others.   Been keeping it pretty simple as far as tackle used. Having the best luck with the lil hustler tubes under a small float or throwing the Bobby Garland baby shads with a 1/32 jig head.  The Bobby's have definitely been my big fish catcher this spring.

The water looks low but appears to be on the rise. We will be there  the week after opener. I have been going since 1981 and enjoying the experience. We love the variety of fish we catch and release each year. Ice went out a bit earlier than in years past. Water may be warmer and plan to target some crappies. We fish predominately in Sand Point as we camp. Good luck all and tight lines. We may consider the hike to Lake Lucille which we did 2 years ago.

thats great to hear regarding the lake levels!!!!!!

On an off light precipitation today. Hoping the weather this weekend will be nice so I can get out and crappie fish and check the weather. My yard has standing water and the driveway is a mess. Lot of lakes are near standard water levels which is good. Heard they are done stripping eggs on cut foot. Shaping up to be a good opener. Last year fished open water 60+ days and 28 different lakes. Hopefully bump both those numbers up this year
