Looking at a cabin on Baby Lake. Anyone familiar with the lake? Is there a lot of walleyes? How busy is it? Any info would be appreciated.

walleye 11!
I used to fish Baby a few times a year when I was bigger on Muskie fishing. I think it'd be a great lake to have a cabin on. The connection to Mann lake is a big plus also.
Baby has walleyes in it but it's not the best walleye lake. They average nice size tho' when you can get them. It's a good bass lake, has nice crappie in too, when you can find them, also.
I like fishing Mann even more than Baby. Better for bass (small and largemouth), big northerns, some walleye and a few huge muskie to go along with the smaller ones. Good lakes for action on muskie. Nice beautiful, clear lakes. Not a lot of nuisance boating activity.
Hope this helps! If you want more info, let me know your email.

Baby gets a ton of muskie fishing pressure and on opening day you will have to park down the road aways at the public boat launch. That's reason enough to get a cabin wink.gif.
Seriously, Baby is a nice lake with good water quality and good fishing for more than muskies. It is a terrific smallmouth lake and there are nice sized crappies when you can find them. The walleye fishing is supposed to be pretty good but I have never spent the time to figure them out. There is a camp on Baby and one small resort. Overall, it's a great little lake. I see there are a few places for sale on Baby right now, I'm curious which one you are looking at.

Thanks for the info. Is the lake weedy or is there a lot of sand along the shores? Haven't gone up in person yet. Anybody seriously fished for walleyes there? If so, where do you catch them? One other thing, how easily accessible is Mann Lake, I have a 18' Crestliner Sportfish, could I get through?

walleye11,
My wife and I have a place on Mann. There is no way your crestliner will fit through
the channel from Baby to Mann. A small fishing boat will fit, though you have to lay down as you go under the bridge.
A boat with a beam lenght of 84" or larger is too wide to pass through. The bridge is that small. The bridge is on a private road
that leads to the French camp that is mentioned above.
If you have or get a small fishing boat, you will have access to Mann lake and McKeown lake, which is to the east of Mann and has a larger culvert to pass through.
Baby lake has alot of submersed weeds along with alot of reeds. Most lake frontage on the West, South and North are weedy, though some places manage the weeds and have soft sand. The East side of the lake has the most sand and rocks. Both the French camp and Sunset Bay resort are located on the East side of the lake.
By the way if I had a place on Baby I would get a 14-footer with a 9.9 or something similar so I could go to Mann and Mckewon through the channels. I have fished Mann but never McKewon. There is a private boat ramp on Mann at a resort. I pay them $5 to put the boat in and they are nice folks but I wish they would put some of the money into improving their ramp. Takes two people to get my Ranger in so I can't fish it alone.
Very little sandy shoreline on Baby, it's almost entirely weeds.

I have a place on baby, walter fishing can be great, if u no were to look! The only other advise I could give CHECK OUT THE SHORELINE..mind is muck...other then that its a great lake...and a bonus area for other fishing lakes.

Been fishing that group of lakes for about 12 years now. It takes a little time to figure them out but the fishing can be quite good. Walleye fishing has improved dramatically in the past 5 years. I would start by fishing the shoeline points associated with weed edges and then go from there. I also think there is awsome deep water trolling potential for large fish, that is under utlilized. Smallmouth fishing is awsome on Baby and Mann. 20+ inch fish have been a regular occurance for me over the years Muskies get most of the pressure on Baby from my observation and for good reason. FishOn is right about having a smaller boat to get through to Mann. Anything bigger than a bench seat type open hull boat will never get under the bridge between Mann and Baby.
