Levels and Conditions

Rainy Lake is finally within the summer "rule-curve" meaning less water released from International Falls. The Manitou Rapids is dropping and the current is almost to the mean daily streamflow. This is excellent news for our area.

Fishing has been OK - drifting with Lindy's with leeches or nightcrawlers in 14' or so of water has produced some nice walleyes. Smallmouth bass are still active. And of course northern pike are biting.

No news on any sturgeon since season re-opened.

With 6" of rain the Rainy River has muddied up again. Levels are high and so is the current. Rainy Lake is about 1/2' above rule curve also.

With no rain forecast for the next few days the level should go down and the river should clear by mid-week.

Anglers in camp today marking lots of fish, but with the muddy water it's hard to get them to bite.

Stay tuned for updates . . .
