Did anyone go out around Fargo this weekend? My brother and I went south of town and picked up a half dozen cats Sunday afternoon on frogs. Sure was a beautiful day to be out on the water. New to catfishing this year and we are hooked.

I saw your rig at the South access and wished I could be on the water. Beautiful day to be out! Get after the cats, cause before you know it, they'll be taking a long, cold nap.

I take it ice fishing for cats isn't very good?

I catch and release all the cats. But is there a way to fry the small ones.

Since I am fairly new to this give me a crtique on our method. We have just been looking for places along the shore where a tree or something is jutting out from shore and fish in the swirls that are created in the current. Is it better to do that on the outside corners or inside corners or maybe on the long straight stretches? it seems like there are endless spots to stop and try??

thanks

Try the shallow muddy shelves both day and night right now. They warm quickest and attract both food and predators like cats and walleye.

For eat'n the 18-20" cats filleted out are tough to beat. If you have never filleted a cat her is a quick tutorial on it.

Lay the fillet knife flat against the rib cage just in front of the top fin and angled downward to the front of the anal fin. Apply steady hard pressure so the knife slips down and over the top of the ribs tell it hits the backbone, then fallow it out to the tail completing the cut. Do the same on the other side. You never intrude into the stomach cavity so this method is quick and clean.

Now remove the skin just as you would a skin of any fish while filleting it. Start from the tail and shimmy the blade flatly to the broader end. Rinse the flesh and fry in 2" by 3" slivers after dusting with your favorite fish fry mix. I prefer Canola or Corn oil for frying cats, less greasy and heart smart too.

Hope this helps.
