We actually ended up fishing 8th Crow Wing. It was pretty slow. Couldn't find Leeches anywhere. We stopped at about 6 bait shops. They seem to be the magic touch up there. We did find some suspended Crappies. Had one Walleye. Nothing else. Tried alot of techniques and fished everywhere. Better luck next time. After the first day we spent most of our time getting ready for the Deer Sseason!! Deer evrywhere! Should prove to be a pretty god year....(knock on wood)

Hello,
Mayfly and anyone else in the Nevis,Akeley, area. Have you ever tried Little Bass Lake?
The landing is a little steep, so I would suggest a 4x4 truck and a smaller boat.
The lake is on the east and north side of Howard lake off of Hwy. 34 just past the Cass county line, go south on the road going to Howard lake. Little Bass Lake is in the Nat'l Forest, but there is a good dirt road to get back there.
I have fished this lake several times, it gets very little pressure and has a huge population of crappies and panfish with some very large northerns in it. The crappies are great and will bite all day long. We have caught crappies in 90 degree heat in the middle of the day with just a 1/8 ounce jig and a yellow and white 2" power bait body. Give it a try.
It is not uncommon to catch limits (easy on this lake) and just fish for fun the rest of the time. 3-4 hours on this lake and you can catch over a 100 of the crappies and panfish.
Good Luck!!!!
Maybe we will see you out there.

FishRanger: That sounds too good to be true. Are they biting now? And are there any size to the Crappies?
