How much ice to walk out, 4 wheeler, truck?

DNR recomendations 

4 inches foot travel

5-7 snowmobile atv

8-12 car or small pickup

12-15 medium truck

In smurfs case 18-20 inches for his truck.? andf way prefer 8 plus for wheeler.

For a moose to walk out I like 6 inches

A lot of people say they're safe and follow the guidelines listed above but the fact is that they don't.  People will start driving on it when there's 8 inches sometimes.  It happens every year and will continue to happen as long as there are boneheads on this planet.

 

Remember that if you are on an area that is 5 inches thick, there are likely areas that are not that thick either.  Its not concrete.  It doesn't all form evenly at the same time.

I go by the rule my grandpa taught me there is half as much ice somewhere on the lake.

Big Stone is the lake I fish and can’t believe the many heavy lodges that need a truck to pull them that are waiting for a little ice
