Am I able to bass fish quarry park? The trout season hasn’t started and I was wondering if that affects anything. I know that there are largemouth and smallmouth in the quarries.  I will not be keeping any fish. I am catch and release only.

I don't know the answer to your question but wanted to welcome you to the Fishing Kinnesota forums.  The St Cloud forum is usually pretty active and there are a number of very good local fisherman who contribute regularly.  I'm sure someone will have an answer for you soon.

Again welcome!

C&R season for bass opens same day as trout. Honestly, I didn’t know any of the quarries had bass. Thought it was just sunfish and a couple trout that get stocked.

The only designated trout lake that I'm aware of in Stearns county is Big Watab.  So, that's the only lake you need a trout stamp.

But, as was mentioned you can't fish for either bass or trout until this weekend regardless of the location.

Trout stamp is needed to fish in designated trout lakes or possess trout. If trout are kept at a quarry lake one needs a trout stamp.

Big Watab is not a designated trout lake. However, to keep trout on that lake, you do need a trout stamp.

Fishing on designated trout lakes requires a trout stamp, regardless if you keep trout or not.

Law changed in 2003 I believe .....

I know you need a trout stamp to fish designated trout lakes. But Big Watab Lake is NOT a designated trout lake. You can fish that lake without a trout stamp. You can also use live minnows and two rods for ice fishing on Watab. BUT...if you plan to keep trout on Watab, then you need a trout stamp.

proof is in da pudding!! Just because a lake is stocked with trout doesn’t mean it’s a designated trout lake.

Big watab is maybe 8 miles from my front door, drive by it a fair amount but never had an interest in fishing it. Just never been into trout fishing for done reason.

Watab has allot more to offer then trout, good bass population, the occasional nice walleye, nice pike (they love those trout).  Lots of structure, great water clarity. Good luck !!
