Whew! Rough weekend

Recommended Posts

I went to diamond 2 times on Saturday. The first time mid morning hole hopped like a mad man just tiny perch. Then I decided to try a night bite for crappies got 2 beauties on hook and minnow 12 inchers lost 1 and that boys and girls was it. Not whining but it has really been a rough fickle bite this year. Just a little update. I would love to get on a sunnie bite I can sit all day catching 5-6 incher's don't bother me at all.

Pike- fish that lake quite often couple times this winter already. Those pesky little  perch can be very discouraging and drive you crazy for sure.  I will tell you from experience that the gills and crappies swim right along and in the schools of perch. Catch them fishing right in the pods of perch been like this for years in winter. . Key  to catching a few is being able to see the bigger panfish in the school of perch on your electronics or use a camera. It's funny watching a camera on this lake see a big cluster of perch and bam a couple nice gills or craps right in the herd.

If you looking for gill action try Becker Lake piles of gills and a few craps,  you can normally set up camp and sit in one place once you find them. Yes you will have to sort but there are always a few nice ones mixed in to keep things interesting.

Thanks IceHawk for the info. Becker is that the one on the Sauk chain of lakes? Can you drive on to get to it?

Yes certain times of the year you can. 4 wheelers early ice but as of the last two weeks  a few have been driving full size trucks and a few ice castles out there. If you do stay on the trail road and don't venture off it.
