Does anybody know if the Anoka dam is any good for suckers on the rum river? I’m wanting to try to target them this year and I know March is prime time. If anyone has any spots that they would like to share, I would greatly appreciate it. I hear sucker burgers are pretty tasty!!

Welcome Decanno1, when I was younger and lived in the area I caught them at several locations from Anoka up to St. Francis at all times of the year.  Look for feeder creeks that dump into the river on "internet based search engine maps" and you should do alright.  No roll sinkers and a glob of crawlers on a circle hook works well

I haven't explored the Rum much yet, but so far I've only seen walleyes come from below the Anoka dam during what should be the sucker run. There HAS to be suckers there though.

Minnehaha from the falls to the mouth at the Mississippi is good.

Rice Creek from East River Road to the mouth at the Mississippi can be good too.

I've also caught them on the Mississippi near the Champlin boat launch.

They are a really good eating fish. I've smoked them, fried them, pickled them and ground them to make fish cakes. The bones are a real issue, so I don't recommend frying them. That was not a winning experiment.

From what I’ve heard, apparently there’s a ton of them above the dam. Asked my grandfather (because grandfathers know the best) and he was saying that he would go to creeks on google maps and fish those from shore on the Rum River. I will also look at those areas you mentioned, thank you :)
