Anybody run a chest freezer in unheated  garage and does it work ok in winter?

?  I run a freezer in my garage for the past 7 years and it keeps things frozen even in the winter!?

I run a 10 Cu Ft chest freezer in my garage. It's insulated, but not heated. It gets cold enough for water to freeze in the winter and plenty warm in the summer.

I doubt the manufacturer would recommend it, but I've had mine running for about 7 years without a problem.

I bought an old 7 CF for 30 bucks. I read that some don't always work the best inside unheated garage in winter. I found some info on this one and sounds like 0 to 100 it will work fine.

I have for years with no issues. Not insulated or heated garage. I had to replace a freezer last year, and I specifically looked for this type of information on the freezer and it said I could use it in cold environment.

You may want to try this little trick, just place a lighted 40-60 watt light bulb as close to the compressor as you can, it seems to keep the area warm enough to help the freezer work, at least it worked for me..  Good luck.

I believe this is the key.  I have had refrigerator/freezer combo problems in the past.  If the refrigerator thermostat is set to 40F and the ambient temp of the garage is 38F, then the compressor will not run and the freezer eventually gets to the ambient temp of the garage and stuff begins to thaw.

Thx for all the tips. Just a freezer so will do the light bulb if problems happen. It’s against the wall of the house so that might even help a bit.

I have had two freezers (my wife's "domestic" freezer and my "wild" freezer) in our uninsulated, unheated garage for the past 36 years....no issues.

my freezer is up against an outside wall, all i've ever done is stick a big enough piece of styrofoam over or in front of the compressor cover.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
