Lund Boat Parts (transom Corner Cap)

Hello Friends:

 

I have a 2001 Lund Tyee Magnum 1950 that needs a new portside transom corner cap (hard plastic cap with three screws) from banging into the dock during storms. It appears Lund doesn't manufacture this part anymore (called Aronson's, and can't seem to find it at any local stores or on any of the online parts companies (great lakes skipper, etc). Any sense for where I may search next?

If you can't find one and need it really bad. You could try and find a shop to mill one out of a solid piece of black nylon.

Thanks for the replies friends, it's seemingly going to be a bit more difficult than I originally expected. I guess a 2001 is a bit too old to still supply these minor parts!?!? The local Lund place (Rapid Marine) indicated that they rarely go further than 2007 ish, which was a bit of a surprise to me.....

I did a google on "corner cap" and gunwale corner cap.... Saw some stuff that looked like it would work.  

here is one.   this is from Australia but probably could find something here.   Also a bunch of pontoon stuff might be adaptable.  

 

Another thought is to look at Lund models and find one that uses the same hull as your boat only is more recent....   My guess is that Lund has been using basically the same hulls for a bunch of different models for years.   I bet you can find one that has similar corner caps as what you need.   You could even give them a call.

PSU - call the boat graveyard in Shakopee, right next to Valley Fair. It's called Twin City Outboard. I once went in looking for a replacement lower unit for a 3hp 1957 Johnson Seahorse. I was happy when the guy said they had it. When I got there, the guy brought out a box of them so that I could look them over and get the right color! They've got a lot of boats too. Cool place to visit and look around.

Lol....I need the exact same part for a '04 Lund Tyee 1850.  Went looking for a part in July and had the same response from RJ marine in Duluth.   Joked that I need a new boat.

Kicking myself that I did'nt get the Hewescraft I was eyeballing when I was in the market for that boat.  More solidly built IMO....but more utilitarian too.  (Not as plush and not as good for fishing out of the bow...) Lots of plastic parts, trim peices etc. on a Lund that are subject to changes from model year to model year.   Lund only supplies parts back 6years or so....so I am told.     Boats can last longer than a typical car.  Mine runs fine and is fishes just as good as the day I got it.    Aggrivates me that this is the issue now.

I bought an aluminum generic corner trim piece from RJ marine in Duluth.  It fits and will work.  Not sure if they had more of those.

If you search google for it there are a bunch of pictures.  Most of the corners, especially aluminum, are for pontoons but you might find something that would work...   My corners that came with the boat are a rubbery material.  Fortunately they are still hanging on, although not perfectly

I know this is an older post, but I had a friend looking for a corner for his Lund boat. The corner had disintegrated years ago. He still had one side, so I drew it in the CAD and mirror imaged it and 3D printed a replacement out of PETG plastic. Does yours look like this on the underside?

 

The one on the left is the original, my replacement is on the right. I saved the files for both sides, so I can make whichever is needed.

A month ago or so, I went to my wife's office to help them blow up balloons for an office party. One of the people brought their high school-aged son. He was very into:  1) defeating alarm systems; and 2) creating things on 3D printers. 

 

He gave me a whistle that he made on a printer. It is the loudest thing that I have ever heard in my life. Amazing. I put it in my boat as an emergency whistle. It's louder than the air horn that I keep in there.

 

Hopefully Rotes Motorrad comes back to the forum, but I would bet that if you ask around you might find a friend who's child or grandchild could design something for your boat. Most of these kids are just looking around for things to do. Pay for the supplies and give the kid a 6-pack of beer and you'll have a friend for life!
