Taking my first trip to Pelican Lake in August next week and I am worried that the weeds will be so tall that fishing will be terrible.  Has anyone been on the lake recently and help calm my fears.  What is biting now?

There are plenty of areas to fish where weeds are not that tall or areas there are not much for weeds. Not sure what you will be fishing for.  As for the report I have just been to the cabin to work not done much fishing

Pelican Lake is famous for Sunfish, and is said to have a lot of bass also.

If you want to fish a lot and maybe catch a fish,  you could always come on down the road to Vermilion for some Musky fishing ?

Seriously, probably weeds aren't that big an issue.

Are you staying at a resort?   If so they should be able to give you some tips to get you started.

Looks like northerns, largemouths, Crappies and Bluegills are the best bets.....

I am told that walleyes are few and far between on Pelican so I think we will focus on Pike, sunfish, and bass.  We have big group going, so hopefully we find enough for a couple of meals and a lot of fun.

Check the regs.  I think there are some special regs for Pelican.

Protected slot for bass 14-20 inches

Looks like Pelican is in the north central zone for pike since it is just to south/west of hiway 53 so you get 10 with 2 over 26.  You might want to  check on that for sure.

Also Pike have a protected slot 22-26.   Missed that the first reading.
