Evinrude Motor

Question

Posted

Any advice or experience would help.

I’ve been researching used fishing/ski boats and motors...looking to buy this Fall. Then someone has a boat for sale on the road.

It has a Evinrude Ficht Ram Injection outboard motor. I haven’t heard of or know of anyone who owns this motor.

Does anyone have experience or had issues with this motor?

I've seen recalls which makes me hesitant. Also it’s a 2001 and 200 HP for only 8K which seems too cheep for that size...another red flag.

 Share what you know?

Thanks!

I would avoid it, not very common motors, for a reason. They're great until you need to get them fichts (fixed). Parts are sometimes hard to get and never cheap. Alot of places refuse to repair them around here.

Some model Ficht motors are known for having significant reliability problems.   That is why OMC filed Bankruptcy and ended up part of Bombardie.r and eventually got spun off as part of Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP).

I would sure want to do some homework about that model and year engine to see if it was a "bad one"

On the other hand if it is cheap enough that you could afford to put another motor on there....might be worth a stab...

I have to 2nd what del said. Some of their early models in that size had some major issues. I'm not sure if it was that model or not but around that year a lot of that size, ~ 200 hp(6 cylinder(?)) , they made had some big problems.
