Let's get some activity on this board. The sun is getting stronger and the ice always breaks apart at some point. What's your guess for the great Vermilion Ice Out of 2019? The winner can stop by my dock for a cold beer this summer.

May 15th

i hope I’m wrong...

Did someone say....beer?? I'm in!! 4/20. I'm guessing it will be a lil bit early because of the snow cover. It prevented the ice from forming extra thick and all the water from the melted snow will honeycomb the ice faster. What kind of beer are we drinking?

4/30 is my guess.....and yes, lake beer sounds delicious!

May 8th.  But I want my beer delivered to Stuntz Bay since I don't trust my boat/motor.

April 28th is my guess.  I would give just about anything to make it March 28th.

What's the current ice and snow depth, especially compared to average?

You are on Black Bay, right?   Maybe a few losers will stop by...?

Black Bay is correct - I'll definitely be there at opener.

I'm going to guess May 3rd

Won't make opener.   ?  maybe later in summer?

There's a lot of ice out there, I drilled a couple holes yesterday one on a plowed road that was over 36" of ice and another that was off the plowed area that had 30",

I'm optimistic so I'll guess April 27th.

April 21. Wouldn't be suprised if it went quicker. Warm temps look like they're here to stay. A small creek here on pike bay broke free today and in 2 hours really flooded out an area the size of a football field on the bay.

Is the lake ice free yet? It's getting darn warm down here.  ?

Any ice updates?

Neighbor and I went out Wednesday to try a little pan fishing in the Partridge River-about half way between Wakemup and Black Bay. Drilled through the first 4" of soft ice and hit about a 3" pocket of air/water, drilled through the last 20" or so of solid ice that was a little soft. No fish. Went out yesterday just to check out the front of my shoreline, made it out about 50 yards and started to break through the top layer down to the open pocket. Neighbor and I had to hit the throttle pretty good just to keep going. It was a little hairy trying to get turned around to get off the ice, but we made it. If I would of had my portable in-tow, it might have got ugly.

Will do, thanks. I was talking about it with my neighbor and he said his wheeler was bottoming out when he broke through. When I saw he was struggling, I turned around and didn't get in the real dicey stuff. Need that top layer to melt off! Just let the dogs out to do his business and we're get some snow flurries ?

Sorry for hijacking the Vermilion ice topic again, but the ice on Burntside has definitely deteriorated over the 9 days since I was last up.  But snowmobiles and ATV's were running all around the lake.  Ice thickness was about 24" and came out in chunks when I drilled.  Only broke through the top layer a couple of times in my several miles of walking.  I would revise my estimate on Vermilion ice out to about April 27.

You only win 1/2 a beer for revised estimates.
