Thinking about taking my 2 boys on a trip this coming summer. Anybody got a outfitter/resort they recommend?

fly in to remote cabin/lodge.

thinking 4 to 5 days would be long enough.

Bring our own food.

here’s the catch, I have a budget of

$700 per person.  Is it crazy to think I can do this type trip for that money?

I looked on line at a couple outfitters and they want $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 per person. Is this the going rate for this type trip?

Not a fly in but www.fivelakeslodge.com in Red Lake Ontario is a great resort.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will check that place out.

After doing some more research yesterday I realized the “fly in” part is what causes the prices to jump so much. I knew having to fly in would add to the cost of the trip, I just didn’t think it would add that much.

It’s been a few years, but the last time I went to Alaska I only spent about $1200. We brought waders and fished the Kenia River. I just can’t justify the cost of a fly in trip...just my opinion.

@MCI

Have you checked out any sportshows yet?  I think you’ll find a pretty substantial variance in pricing depending location, accommodations and logistics (travel).

I think it’s awesome that you want to take your boys someplace like that and they’ll probably appreciate most any place just for the experience!  I haven’t stayed at Caribou Falls Lodge in Kenora ON but have fished the water in the area and it was pretty good fishing.  I figured that might be place I’d drive to should I want to go back.  I see the rates are up around $1,200 person even as a drive in.  But it’s remote for a drive in.  It’s in the Tetu Lake/English River system.  Maybe research some other outfits on the English River for lower rates.

Check out Temple Bay resort on Eagle lake ,,,, Bus ride up and 35% off for youth ,,, Might fit your budget ,,, I haven't been there in 20 years but the fishing was good for walleye and musky

A fly-in trip might be out of reach, but I would highly recommend Lac Seul.  Our group will be going up again this June for the 10th time. It's really hard to beat Lac Seul for walleyes.

I would also recommend going to the Northwest Sportshow in Minneapolis next weekend. Great place to find a trip.

Cobb Bay Lodge on Sturgeon Lake in Ontario would be a place I would suggest looking into. Jamie and Sheri are really great people! I have only fished the lake through the ice but know friends that have fished the open water for years and keep going back. I think price wise it would fit the bill! Good luck!

      Monday was my worst day of winter fishing on Vermilion in the last 4 years.  Caught only one 14" walleye in nearly 8 hours of fishing.  Missed two other bites and was marking very few fish.  Maybe the fish were taking Monday off after a big weekend.   No more water came up on the ice under my house.  Think it was because I haven't banked snow around it for a couple of weeks so the bare ice around the house is getting very thick.  I measured 38" of ice under my house and the Ion barely made it through even with the extension installed.  Needless to say I banked around the house this time.  Another lesson I learned today is don't drill holes if ice is frozen on your blades.  I did that on one hole and it didn't center properly and drilled at an angle on the edge of the opening.  Hope I can correct the location and angle on my next trip up.   Not much change in the surface lake surface conditions.  The drifts may be a little higher and are definitely harder.  There are still a few bare ice spots on the lake.  Very little activity on the lake today.  There are about 3 dozen houses from McKinley Park out to Birch Island.  Another person pulled there house off today, and I am sure many more will pull theirs off this coming weekend.  Only 13 days left of walleye season.

      Great looking food. So far not much of a game and I thought the halftime show was worse I've seen.
