With everybody patiently waiting for ice-out on Vermilion, I thought it would be interesting to have an ice-out contest for our small lake located half way between Duluth and Lake Vermilion. We are on a 150 acre lake with a maximum depth of 11 feet. One week ago I took my last snowmobile ride around the lake, and two days later I took my last walk around it. On the day I last walked around the lake, the ice thickness was 10 inches at 100 yards out. The picture below was from yesterday, Tuesday, April 15th. Winner wins a raffle ticket for our volunteer fire department cash raffle. In future years, our ice out date may help me predict when the ice will go out on Vermilion. -
