Was out Thursday drilling holes on Lake 1. The whole northern half of the lake I found 9 to 10 inches. Very consistent. Drilled about 20 holes.??

Thank you for the report. Did you happen to walk from HWY 61 ramp access I assume? I usually set up a little north of the ramp.....would you say there was 9-10" there as well?

No, I went out the north access that you can't launch a boat on. 237th and Granda off of North Shore Trail. Very north end of Lake 1.

How is the ice on #2?  Anyone drive on the lakes yet? Atvs, snowmobile, or cars/trucks?

I see wheelers and snowmobile all over the place but no vehicles yet. Not to say there hasn't been any. I typically only Fish Lake one. Good luck

I’ve seen quite a few cars and small trucks on the lake. I personally wouldn’t drive on the lake yet. I’m willing to bet some bigger vehicles will venture out this weekend.

Was on 2nd last night, 8.5 inches of ice where I was at. Some jacka$$ in a white crew cab racing around. Ice basically shaddering. I thought I was going down. Fishing was slow and the wind was howling. Might make a inch or 2 over the next couple days but doesn't look good after that.

Went out just to check ice depth today, measured 13.5" on lake one a couple hundred yards out from the public access in town.  No snow left, very slick, and lots of heave action on a majority of the shoreline.

Pretty interesting if you never seen anything like that.

 

CRUNKY CRUNCHY sounds of ice on rocks last night as trucks drive on an off.....always fun.

FYI, they are setting up for snowmobile races this weekend just north of the lake one access.

Yeah I was just there today Friday checking the access. Perfect shape. That is Lake 1 northwest access. Looks awesome.

      Something in May, like around Opener.  Could be white knuckles for boaters that weekend with the way things stalled out since the contest started and how thick it still is.   Highs in the 50’s coming but lows are around freezing and not a lot of wind in the extended forecast.   I’ll ya what, if you change from 4/26 and it hits that date, I’ll buy ya some mythical FM beer.  And you know where you can find it. 😉. But don’t change on my account - this is still a free country!

      I caught the 10pm news the other night. They said that starting next week Minnesota will be above average for temps. I give them a 33% chance of getting that right.

      That's ok, got the Bear hunting out of my system years ago.  Still have some good spots on the GPS up in the Arrow head!  Did love me some good greasy bear roasts though!  😋
