Made it out last night for the first time.  Hit Shamineau for the evening bite.  Fished 21 ft water, about 15 yrds out from the milfoil edge.  Fish marked regularly from 4:15 till 6:30.  7 fish caught and probably 10 misses, first time out give me break!  Most of the walleyes were small with 2 14" fish put in the bucket.

Minnows under a bobber with a plain hook or a white jig caught all the fish and bites.  Nothing on spoons.

Ice conditions: we had a consistent 9" of very good ice on Shamineau.  Large houses are out on the far west side.

Lake Alex has fisherman on most of the community spots with four wheels being used.  On the east end ice is good ranging from 8 to a little of 11".

Have not been on Fish Trap, however, Action Dock Service has warned that there is an large open area on the west side of Big Island as of yesterday.

Please be aware that Alex, Shamineau and Crookneck have many aerators in use all around these lakes for shorline protection.  Be very aware of what is in front of you, especially at night.

Good luck.

I was on a small lake in the area yesterday as well.  Maybe 9 inches steady with one spot about 5 inches.  Lots of cracking going on.

It it was a search mission for crappies so I kept moving and jigged with plastics.  Only produced 2 and not many others were marked.  I wished I had some minnows to try.

Yes, be careful on Fishtrap!  Two area residents were lost out there yesterday.  They were together and both knew the lake very well.  Last I heard one has been been recovered and the other is still missing.  Very sad news.  Thoughts and prayer to their families. ?

One of my buddies and I were talking about this yesterday. Said there is a small spring  by the West end landing just west of the small island with the house on it. Both were experienced fishermen but a SxS isn’t light and down they went. A bigger lake like FT wouldn’t be getting my business as far as bigger vehicle traffic yet. Please be careful out there! Very said indeed.

I fished Shamineau Friday night  17 feet of water  Small window of active walleyes caught 3,  a 12, 16 and a 23in.  All caught on spoons nothing on dead stick.  Found 9 to 10 inches of ice with a few spots of 5 inches(snow drifts and cracks).

Open water season has started.  Hope all had a safe and successful opening weekend.

We started our season off on Fish Trap. We hit the water about 5:30 pm Saturday,  Water is high and only 50°.  The access has some floating cattail bogs on it, as well as having to back the truck into the water a bit to get trailer deep enough.  Make landing and loading a bit more "difficult".

Fishing was good, Northern Pike made for a busy evening.  in a few short hours we caught 13 pike between 20"-27". 3 walleyes were caught as well ranging 16"-21".  Plenty of missed bites as well.  Most fish were caught in 11-13 ft of water on spottail shiners.

Zebra mussels are thick!!  They are attached to every weed, old piece of line, or stick you snag.  Hundreds of them.  Please be careful not to bring the garbage into the boat.  So not to cause your self headaches later at the access.

Good luck everyone.

Hi! We have a lake lot above the Pillager Dam, very close to it. No issues finding pike or bass but have never been able to find the panfish/crappies. I’ve heard they’re there but we’ve never had any luck. Anyone fished near the dam or even upriver from there and found them?

There are good panfish, both above and below Pillager dam.

in Lake Placid, As the water warms, look for the milfoil beds on the north side of the river to establish itself.  If the edges as well as the deeper water adjacent to the weeds.  I like to fan cast a split shot rig vs. a bobber set up.

Below the dam, in summer panfish can be caught directly below the dam as well as near Cty 1 Bridge and along most of the inside turns of the river east of there.

There are some nice sized panfish in the system, please let the bigger ones back.
