Hoist For Lifting Deer

I'm looking to buy a hoist for hanging to skin deer in the garage for around $200 can any one recommend one?

A chain, a $20-$30 come-along and your set. Wrap chain around rafter hook up come- along and away you go. Been doing it this way for many many years without trouble.

At the hunting shack we put up a pulley and run the winch cable from the 4 wheeler through it and hoist em up.

We use come-alongs or just back the truck up to the hangen pole and have all the big young guys lift um up there!

pulley is way easier in the garage!!!!

 

I can also pull the hides that way too!!!!  just the truck or wheeler pull it off!!

look at it on amazon. 19 bucks. I bought one about 10 years ago and love it. I can raise a big deer by myself with this one. So glad I bought it since I do the butchering. I raise them up, tie legs off to rafter with a rope so it doesnt spin and skin away.

I started using a chain hoist like this 2 years ago. Much easier for one or two people than a rope block & tackle.

HAHA! you silly guy you. Mine has done more bucks and does than that, so yes. usually 3 to 4 per year go thru the garage for myself and friends and family. mmmmmmmmmmm

looks nice but spendy. the rope system I bought is easy peasy and I have a bad back. just dont get one with a thin rope.

deer have been hanging here since 1991.

Looks good.   The other picure looks like it was attached to that thin angle stock, so that is why I asked.

I apologize for bumping this old thread, but I would like to share my experience...

 

I have another suggestion with a hook design like in this model by Game Hoist http://huntingfishingplus.com/best-deer-hoist/ Don't attempt to weld it, like handcuffs, around a stack of beams, as you will have a smokily charred mess if you get any sort
of penetration into welding. What I have built is 2 pieces of a plate that have the shape of a lower register “t” without a hook at the bottom. The horizontal shape will be placed sit atop the stack of beams (ideally, an equal number of wooden beams on each side). Cut through a mill or a torch a closed slot in the center of this horizontal plate through which you pass a piece of vertical flat bar. Then fillet-weld both on top and below the horizontal plate (build it on the bench). Drill a hole in the bottom end of the vertical bar, making sure that there is 1-1 / 2 of the diameter of the material under the hole. Then attach the anchor for your hoist point, or if the hoist has its own hook, use hole saw to cut a hole for this directly into the plate.

This design puts your weld in double shear mode, it's much stronger than the proposed original design, which is in direct tension. It’s not that the first design doesn’t work, but you put maximum confidence (something above your head is big enough to kill you) in your personal welding quality when you put on a weld. When shifting more errors in error.

I mounted a boat trailer winch on the wall and a couple of pulleys on the rafters.   Run the rope from the winch through the pulleys and to a gambrel.    I can easily handle a full size deer by myself.  I use the ice fishing sled as a drip pan and to throw the bones/scrap in.
