Fishing Line

Newbie question.

What type of line are you using on your fishing reels?  Braid, monofilament, fluorocarbon?

Do you use a leader with braid?

Thoughts?

Depends on what I am fishing for? I have braid for pike and bass to a steel leader on  pike set up. The bass set up I have a clip attached to switch lures easier. panfish and walleyes mono.

I used to just run 8lb mono, but I've stepped it up to 12 as I've been getting into bigger fish lately. I prefer a decent mono for most applications.

 

I usually use a slip sinker and a swivel with snell setup unless I'm trolling or jigging. I do a lot of river fishing, though.

I've been using 10# braided with 8# mono leader for my walleye jigging rods. I've tried Fireline, Nanofil, and have settled on PowerPro.

Tx all.  Most of my fishing is on the river, around docks, rocks and weeds.  Bass fishing mostly.

I have really gone to line Gamma brand line. It is a copolymer. Soft like mono but abrasive resistant as well. I prefer it in #6 for game fish and #4 for panfish....

If I can't find it I fall back to trilene in XL.......

I resisted converting to braided lines. I liked my TrileneXL. Then, one day about four years ago I decided to spool up with fireline and at first I didn't think I could really feel much difference. Skeptical me, I always held on to that spool loaded with my trusty Trilene. One day I decided to put that mono back on and immediately could feel the difference. It felt like I was fishing with a rubber band. I went back to braided and haven't looked back.
