I meant to take down a birch last summer to dry out over the winter and spring but never got around to it and didn't manage my wood inventory very well

Anyone ever have campers or others "visit" your wood pile? I visit a fairly remote cabin on an island and we occasionally find the wood pile smaller than we left it.

Someone would have to climb a tall hill to get to my woodpile. I would like chalk it up to someone really being in a pinch. If it happened frequently I would probably get a little more concerned. You could always make sure to put a layer of green wood on top so that a repeat offender sours on your supply (i.e. poison the well). However, they may be smart enough to sniff out dry vs wet wood.

I would probably make a little firewood shed with front doors that I could lock

Ya it may cost a little bit but they are nice and keeps your wood dry and you will probably make your money back from not losing anymore wood in no time.
