Ultera Emergency Stow Procedure

Question

Posted

I have a Minn Kota Ulterra and am not having any problems. In last two days I have seen two fisherman struggling out on the water trying to stow their units that failed to auto stow. There is an emergency procedure described in digital manual but it is not very helpful. I have looked for a video of this procedure on You Tube but couldn't find one. Has anyone had any luck finding such a video??

Ive had the same issue.  I turned both the motor and remote of for 30 seconds or so and then worked fine.  it has happened twice for me.  Hope its not reoccurring which would be very annoying.  For the cost,  this stuff should work.  I wonder if they are I-link motors?  Mine is.

My unit is not a link unit. I thought they worked the bugs out of these units. 19 years ago they recalled all of these when almost all of them failed. Fingers crossed I guess.

Just talked to a buddy with an Ultera issue. He damaged the belt when he secured the motor head to his boat using a ram mount. Others I talked to said keep an eye on the belt tension. It is adjustable with an allen wrench.

It takes 30 seconds to stow. Remove the right side cover, remove one screw from the screw arm, pry up screw arm, tilt Ulterra. I have been running the Ulterra for two years with ZERO issues, but then again I don't run bargain batteries. It's usually the batteries that fail, causing a lack of voltage to stow the trolling motor.

By saying it's the batteries  I'm also saying that the owner may or may not be fully charging his batteries or may or may not be running batteries of sufficient size for the job.
