I just bought a 17' Crestliner that came with a Humminbird 798 CI. I mounted the transducer on the back of the boat per the instructions and ran the cable to the unit. The GPS works fine, but the depth reads a constant zero feet. The bottom of the transducer seems to be parallel with the bottom of the boat about 20" to the right of the motor (90 HP). I will try to post pictures when I get home (and it stops raining!). Is my transducer angle just off? Is it possible to test out of the water? Thanks for helping someone who is just getting back in to fishing!

Rivergroup, Are you on the east or west side of the lake. When you say before 7am what time you going out? 5am? How deep of water? Just looking for starting point for this coming weekend. Thanks!
As I understand the challenge, there are regulations regarding water pumping and circulation from the lake into holding tanks for minnows. It makes keeping minnows alive and healthy, as a sustainable business, very difficult for lakeshore businesses.
