First timer thinking of heading up on Sunday, probably fish out of Duluth. I've always wanted to try it, and I know the fish are supposed to be shallow this time of year, so I'm hoping we can get by with walleye crankbaits, regular spoons, and jigs/plastics. Any reports or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Your standard stick bait style cranks should be all you need. Leave the plastics at home.

Agree with the above. I've never seen plastics used on Lake Superior

Went out Fri am just out the Superior entry and got 3 for 3. One Laker and two cohos. The last coho took my spoon just a couple of feet from the motor as I was reeling in to wrap up my fishing for the day.

It got pretty bouncy out there in the pm so I'm glad I took the morning off from work. Now bring on the Minnesota 2017 Walleye opener.

The big lake has been slow for me as of late. Fishing the Lake Superior tributaries has been good but it's time to gear up for walleyes now

It has been a great Spring on the big lake!   I've talked with lots of guys at the accesses who have reported slow fishing.  I think a lot of guys kind of troll aimlessly out there.   If you pay attention to details and target specific areas based on conditions you will have much better success.  If you aren't sure what to look for do a search on this forum.  There has been a lot of good info shared on here in the past.

Got out on Saturday along with my brother who went out in his boat. So much mud that we went our separate ways searching for better water. With 3 in his boat he caught 5 Coho and 5 Lake Trout. I found a nice spot and went 2/5 before the wind messed up the spot. Sunday morning went out with my brother to the same spot and had a double before the third line was out. Ended up going 7/11 before a storm with red in it chased us off the lake. Loonasea was correct on the nice size of the Coho's right now. All fish were caught with stick baits on top.

Just got back into town from a slightly too long "vacation" dealing with relatives. Anywho, how has the fishing been on Superior, are the fish local or have they migrated N.E?
