Midnight opener

For those who fish opener at midnight, is it worth it fishing wise? Or is it more of a tradition thing. Fishing usually slows down for me an hour or so after sunset, so how many eyes are actually caught in the middle of the night?

In the Spring and more so in the fall, I will always fish under the full moons trolling cranks at night. I have had some very, very good outings doing this. I will be doing this for opener on Mille Lacs this year

It all depends, some years more fish are caught in the first four hours of the day than the rest of the day. There are a lot of years it does not work that way at all. Sometimes there are not many people out and it is nice not to be crowded and other years it seems like everybody got out at midnight. For me it is about the tradition, but I am done going out in totally miserable weather!

It seems to depend on the lake.    Some lakes are good at night and others not so much.  I have no idea why.

I've done midnight start on many Openers.  Some lakes or spots at that time are good at night and it usually is a place with current.  Your going to be taking a nap during the day if you do that.   I'm too old to stay up all night and get too cranky when my sleep schedule is that far out of whack.    I'll be getting to bed early enough to get up before sunrise and fish the morning bite.  Then back to shore for lunch and then back out and fish till the evening bite is done.   That day is long enough and I'll get up and do that again.
