Tip-up line

Just wondering how often or if ever guys change the line on their tip-ups?  couple of mine its been on over 10 years, I use 50lb blk nylon line and it seems to be holding up ok any feedback would be great thanks.    Stay Safe Good Luck       Bear55

If it looks good. Feels good. It's probobly fine but if your worried I'd swap it with some new stuff.

They say the nylon rots but I've never seen it and Dacron is better but I've been using leftover braids I have laying around and the vinyl stuff more these days. I usually just change the leaders yearly.

I bought some 100 pound test flyline backing they use for tarpoon stuff is amazing spends but it is still strong as heck 12 years later

Run some line off the spool and give some serious test pulls to see if you can pop it in several sections.  Better to find out at home than at the lake, especially if you're expecting some serious sized fish.

 

You might find a weak section deeper in the spool if rot is an issue.
