My 949i has seen better days. The pole pockets are giving way allowing the poles to stick out the bottom making setting this house up a challenge on a good day and nearly impossible alone in a wind. I tried sewing it up myself but the repair only lasted a couple set ups before it failed. Looking for someone with a heavy duty sewing machine. Thinking a canvas or tent and awning type place. Where would you go to have this type of repair made in the metro area?

North Country Auto and Marine in Crystal can help you get your canvas all patched up!  I also do other marine related canvas/vinyl repairs as well as covers LED lighting, Fiberglass projects and repair, detailing and gelcoat buffing, audio along with many other useful services.  Give me a call at 763-432-9384.  Address is 5215 West Broadway Ave Crystal MN.

I want to give an honest review of Steve and north county auto. He saw my post on here of a fisherman in need and offered his service. I looked around and could have taken my hub to get repaired at multiple places closer to me than Crystal, but decided to give another fisherman a try.

This was a perfect experience.  He was willing to meet me outside of normal business hours to accommodate my schedule. The stitch up appears totally solid (double stitched) and Steve even warranteed the repair. The price was more than fair and he's a nice guy to boot.

I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in need of canvas repair. He does a bunch of other things for the open water fisherman as well.

My apologies if this somehow violates any rules on the forum (I never looked) but my experience was a good one and wanted to pass it along.

I've brought my portable to him and he did an excellent job at a very fair price two thumbs up. And after this season on one windy day think I might have to be bringing it back to him for some repairs. Couldn't be happier with the service. :D

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
