Just bought a Showdown yesterday, planning on reading the manual tomorrow.

Any tips on getting it set up initially (I know all locators have various settings that need to be initialized) are appreciated.  Going to hopefully use it on Monday/Tuesday.

I had just looked at a page in the book quickly this morning, and it was claiming that the transducer should only sit a few inches into the hole?  I thought they needed to be down by the edge of the ice ? Also, is it ok to have the transducer at the edge of the hole, or does it need to be centered?

All input is appreciated.  Thank you.

Ducer should sit at bottom of the hole or you will get ice clutter on the unit...I always use the arm and bend it so ducer is on the edge not in the middle to reduce the chance of line twisting around the ducer wire...good luck fishing!

I love mine and about always run the sensitivity at 2. I use another depth finder in a hole 3 feet away and they play nice together.. Very easy to use and dependable.. I guess that's why you don't see many on CL. I just drape the transducer over the side of the hole I fish out of and just make certain only the cord hits the side of the hole and the puck is hanging below ice.

I have a dual beam for my backup now that I have a lx6

with the show down I almost always run it on some kind of zoom I think I always hit auto depth when I first get in the hole then change it over and manually zoom it... its been awhile since I used it but like any flasher just change the sensitivity until you can barley see your jig

since it has no color light gray is smaller things dark gray/black is bigger things the "bar or mark is wider too"

The unit is pretty straight forward and easy to use

the only things with marcums I don't like is the rubber stopper for the ducer arm tends to let the ducer slide down and change depths of the ducer especially if you are hold hopping

I fixed that by using a depth finder clip just above the rubber stopper

I also put my ducer just below the ice

Yeah, I had it out on Monday.  Easy to figure out. Tried bottom lock zoom, that was nice (was fishing Lake Pepin).  Kept sensitivity at 3 or 4.

It does exactly what I need it to do, and I don't have to stare at blinking lights... :D

Seemed to play just fine with a Vexliar FL8.

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
