The Department of Natural Resources will present a proposed boundary change for deer permit areas 181 and 182 near Cloquet at a public meeting Monday, March 6, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Cloquet High School cafeteria, 1000 18th St., Cloquet.

The proposed change would move a narrow peninsula of land from deer permit area 181, into deer permit area 182. The change would provide clarity for mapping purposes, align better with the developed areas around and within city of Cloquet, and allow for consistent deer management in the greater Cloquet-Duluth area.

“This narrow strip of land has created confusion for hunters trying to interpret the irregular boundary on the map provided in the Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis,” said Melissa Koelsch, Cloquet area assistant wildlife manager. “Moving the boundary will provide map clarity, as well as allow for uniform deer harvest within the city limits of Cloquet.”

Local wildlife staff will be at the meeting to answer questions and receive comments on the proposed change. If approved, the boundary change would be effective with the start of the 2017 deer hunting seasons.

This meeting is separate from the statewide deer planning process.
