Done alot of summer walleye fishing on the chain but I never here of ppl ice fishing the chain. I know William's narrows is nothing to mess with. Just seems odd that for how great that fishery is no one hard water fishes it.

Used to winter fish Sand Point quite a bit. We had to access it by going over Mukooda and then fish Grassy Bay. I don't even know if you can still do that but it was an easy ride with a snow machine. Haven't done it in years but it was good. Be careful of all the various narrows!  Mukooda itself is a place where a guy used to be able to catch some lake trout.

You must be willing to travel a bit on sled if you're looking for lakers. Use crane as a jumping off point to fish Canada waters. Lac la croix is home for the big ones. Rob Scott caught a 52 pounder through the ice a couple yrs ago. This area is definitely snowmobile country.

It does have lakers but I think they closed it for harvest.  I thought I read it was due to those lakers being a different strain and getting fished down a little too much.

That laker Rob caught was a hawg!  Too bad he got it taken away.
