I'm ice fishing with my helix 5 and my friend is using his helix 7.  Neither unit is working correctly and the sonar is not picking up our jigs.  We have tried playing with the switch fire settings, sensitivity,  and noise filters.  My helix 5 won't read anything below 15 feet of water and we are in 25 feet.  Once I go past the 15 foot mark my jig line on the graph disappears.  Any help or suggestions would be helpful.

25ft of water, you are definitely not fishing in the Marshall area

I never used my helix for ice fishing, but on my Marcum,  you use the gain setting to pick up you jig, not sure if this is on it, there must be something that goes there to adjust this in the menu.

Up on Mille lacs... I got tired of 8 feet of water and having the fish out of the hole when you set the hook

We both had purchased the ice models with the ice ducers.  we were both only running at 200Khz.  I contacted Humminbird and they said that if both are close by and running at 200 then it can cause issues.  Sounds like one would have to be at 83 and one at 200 or maybe both at 83.  I had to leave the ice before i got this response so was not able to test.

The support cable will make the transducer sit awkward and won't read right. Those support thingies suck!

I just purchased the Helix 7 and i love it. Unfortunately, the unit seems to be affected by most vexilars that i have fished next to. My fishing buddy also has the 5 and i will be fishing with him this weekend. I will post again on my experience with it after the weekend. I was very surprised to see this post, and actually kind of disheartened that both hummingbirds wouldn't be able to run next to each other.

we were pretty good when i used my Vex.  If you are using a 5 and 7 try having one at 200 frequency and one at 83 or both at 83 and see what that does for you.  i have not been out since with y friend and his 7 to do any testing.

I just seen a video that suggested switching your noise filter to advanced user mode. I'm going to give that a try as well.

we tried doing that too.  once i got a response from Humminbird they were the ones to suggest running different frequencies on each unit.

make sure under the sonar tab the max depth is set to Auto or to whatever depth you are fishing, it maybe set to 15' right now; a guy at the jaycees contest had the same issue, his was set at 10' max in 45' of water

What a difference a day makes.  Fishing was very slow today.  Biggest I caught was only 13 inches.  Marked a lot of fish but couldn't get very many to bite.   The wind was very strong today and did cause a little bit of drifting, but travel is still good on the latke.  Just avoid the snow banks and drifts.  Saw one house get pulled off the lake, and didn't see any new houses come out before I left the lake at 4pm.  Lots of snowmobiles and trailers in Tower.  At least the city and lake will be busy with those.   Good luck fishing if you go out the last weekend of the winter season.

Ice condition didn't change much in the last week as shown in the McKinley Park photo from today.  The holes in my house froze all the way down in the last six days; 40 inches of ice now.  I drilled my two holes 24 inches and cleared the shavings out before reaching water.  Much cleaner way in a permanent house.   Fishing was pretty good today.  Caught two 24" walleyes, including the 5#-7oz fatty pictured.  Also caught a 19 incher.  Best bite was from 11 to noon.  Much better action with chubs than shiners today.  Never tried the pike suckers I had.   Good luck fishing the last weekend this winter.  Going to be very windy Friday, but drifting shouldn't b a problem since there is no loose snow on the lake.  Saturday and Sunday look to be very warm.  Still about 35 houses left out from McKinley Park.

Too bad she’s after big game when she leaves home.  Your one eyed trouser trout might not lure her in. 😉
